The Potawotomi Festival had its beginning in 1971 and was initially brought about by the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce. Then the festival filled McDonald Park and Ravine Park and Brady Street between Jackson and Main, from Mill Street to Perry and Brady Street

With the passage of time, as the Chamber of Commerce faded from the community’s scene, a group of local citizens accepted the charge of preparing each year the activities that kept the festival part of the community.

To accommodate the needs of patrons who visited the festival and to expand its offerings, the festival moved to Ouibache Park at the riverfront along the banks of the Wabash. Activities during the festival are now found throughout the city. The Festival is an event held annually in mid September.

Since 1971, people from all over the world gather to see Native American drumming and dancers, heritage craft demonstrations, browse over 200 booths or crafts and flea markets. The Festival also features Commercial vendors, children’s entertainment, LIVE entertainment, crafts and exhibitions of Native American culture, and much more.

Incorporated in 1979, the festival demonstrated its determination to remain a part of the city’s scene, and is celebrating its 41st Anniversary. We are proud of our heritage and the advantages we see in a small town setting. We take pride in our businesses, our industries, churches, schools and our people. Even a short stay will convince you to return for a visit again.

The festival is named for the Native American Potawotami Tribe.

The purposes of the Potawotami Festival INC. are but are not limited to Charitable, Religious, Educational, and Scientific Purposes…
